Calasetta

Piazza CalasettaThe characteristic fishing village Calasetta counts about 3000 inhabitants and is situated on the northern tip of the island Sant Antioco which lies in front of the south western coast of Sardinia.
The original inhabitants came over from Carloforte in 1769. They were fugitives from the island of Tabarka, and originally came from Genova. Two years later a group of 300 Piemontese joined the founders.

Calasetta facciata tipicaThe urban architecture is based on the classical Piemontese pattern, with narrow straight alleyways that intersect at straight angles
Over the village stands the guard tower, dating back to the days of barbarian attacks which ceased only after 1815.

The most important sites to visit are the church, constructed in neo classical style by the architect Gaetano Cima, the main square Piazza Belli with the characteristic town hall and the museum of modern art.
